Nissan has officially announced that a sportier-looking version of the Leaf all-electric vehicle will be going into limited production, primarily for the Japanese market. The information comes courtesy of autocar.co.uk, as they have talked to Nismo boss, Shoichi Miyatani.
The Leaf Nismo will get a bespoke body kit, inspired by that of the Leaf Nismo Concept, as well as the Nismo RC Concept, new larger and sportier-looking rims, complimented by some mild interior tweaks. Sadly, they will not be giving the new EV any extra performance, which is a bit of a shame, and makes the whole idea seem somewhat redundant to us.
Nevertheless, it will breathe a bit of life into the image of the Leaf, and will definitely make it more appealing to some. Still, it would have been nice to have a properly sportier version of the Leaf, with just a bit of extra horsepower to really justify the racier exterior styling.
The Leaf Nismo is expected to go on sale in Japan in the summer, and there are talks about it coming to Europe, but since it will be made in very limited numbers, Miyatani has stated that it would be hard to justify it.
