Nissan Juke Presented in the US

Japanese carmaker Nissan unveiled yesterday at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) its newest sport crossover, the Juke. Without revealing the price (expected to be under $20,000) and only hinting to a fall 2010 availability on the US market, Nissan is hopeful the Juke will leave its mark on US soil.

"JUKE provides an exceptional level of available technology for its segment and a special character all its own," Brian Carolin, senior, vice president, Sales and Marketing for Nissan said at the unveiling.

"We're expecting an enthusiastic response from people attending the New York Auto Show and look forward to JUKE going on sale this fall."

In the US, the Juke will only be available with the 1.6-litre Direct Injection Gasoline turbocharged engine which develops 140kW (190PS) and 240 Nm of torque. It will be both a two- and four-wheel drive version, while Nissan will offer two transmission options: Xtronic CVT with S-Mode and a 6-speed manual transmission (SV FWD and SL FWD models only).

Options packed into the crossover include leather-appointed seats and RearView Monitor, Nissan Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition, navigation system with real-time traffic information and power sliding moonroof, six airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC).

"Add in the convenience, versatility and high seating positioning of a traditional compact SUV – and pricing that is expected to start at just under $20,000 – and you've got a vehicle unlike any other in its class," Carolin concluded.
