With new Italian supercars taking over the spotlight at the recent Geneva Motor Show and thousands upon thousands of articles being dedicated to them, the technologically advanced but, in some people’s opinion, stylishly impaired Nissan GT-R has resigned itself to the shadows of the performance underworld. We think that it doesn’t deserve such treatment, as it is one of the most impressive cars out there, so we decided to take the time to make Godzilla shine again.
Nissan loves to improve the GT-R by spending time with it on the famous Nurburgring track. The car vene famously beat the 911 Turbo’s time on the famous German circuit. With the newest generation of the vehicle producing an extra 45 horsepower, Nissan engineers wanted to take it there to see what it can do.
With the old car’s record lap standing at a blistering 7 minutes and 26.7 seconds, they returned last October to set a new time of 7 minutes 24.22 seconds, which is just a bit quicker that the Maserati MC12.
Not only is the GT-R now faster than the race-inspired Maserati, but it also beats the times set but the likes of the Pagani Zonda F Clubsport, Ferrari Enzo, Porsche Carrera GT and a host of other expensive, hard-to-pronounce exotic machines.
For now we can only show you this video, which is in Japanese and includes some wise words (we think) from GT-R chief designer Kazutoshi Mizuno. It's hard to say just how fast the GT-R is compared to other cars, as there is no governing body that keeps tabs on Nurburgring times, but it’s still a mightily impressive speed machine.
