One of the most talked-about contemporary supercars, the Nissan GT-R is using the L.A. Auto Show to mark the North American debut of its 2012 US-spec incarnation.

The vehicle’s twin-turbocharged 3.8 liter V6 now delivers 530 hp and a peal torque of 488 lb-ft (662 Nm). The power and torque premium comes thanks to an increased boost pressure, an optimized air mix ration and a new valve timing.

But the dream doesn’t stop here, as the Japanese engineers have also payed with the aerodynamics of the vehicle. The front fascia was refreshed, receiving a set of air intake fins that optimize the airflow. Speaking of air intakes, these are now larger, providing a better cooling for the engine and front brakes.

Unfortunately, Nissan is keeping the new performance figures secret, so we’re not able to tell you what the latest Godzilla can do. Unofficial reports indicate that the vehicle could be able to deal with the 0 to 62 mph sprint in a mind-blowing time of 3 seconds (the vehicle’s intelligent all-wheel-drive system has to be credited here).

Other changes include the addition of two exterior colors, Deep Blue and Jet Black, as well as the introduction of LED daytime running lights. The car now rides in 20-inch RAYS alloy rims that have been optimised for a high level of load, as Nissan knows that the GT-R is being used for heavy drifting sessions.

Nissan has also introduced a Black Edition for the car, which comes with special Recaro seats, new RAYS rims, as well as a few interior changes.

The updated GT-R will enter the market at the beginning of next year, retailing for $89,950 ($95,100 for the Black Edition).
