If somebody who doesn’t know anything about the internet comes to us and asks “what’s so cool about it?” we would tell him about Nick Murray. He’s a New Zealander living in America who’s ordered a Porsche 911 only to have it fall to pieces. Just about everything that could go wrong with his Carrera S did so, but instead of immediately replacing the car the company representatives mishandled his case quite badly.
The internet, from Reddit to just about every news outlet, quickly rallied to his side and soon after that, Porsche decided to do the right thing, publicly announcing they would buy back Nick’s sick car.

Anyway, getting back to the story at hand, the Nine-a-Lemon owner has jus made another statement. This will probably be the last we’ll see of the broken 911, as it will be picked up soon. Nick has pretty much decided what he wants in its place and, surprisingly, it’s a BMW.

Why not another Porsche? Well, Nick might consider a Turbo instead of a Carrera S, but isn’t willing to pay that difference quite yet. He also knows that a mid-life update is coming soon and there’s no point in going for the outdated model.

Nick has already ordered the brand new BMW M3, saying he’ll be one of the first people in the country to receive one. It’s not totally clear if he’s getting an M3 sedan or an M4 coupe, but that’s kind of beside the point here.

BMW instead of Porsche? That’s a bit of slap in the face for Stuttgart, but it’s not intentional. The New Zealander has previously owned an E90 M3, the previous generation of the sports compact with a big V8 engine. The perceived luxury levels are not going to be anywhere near the 911’s, but maybe the new M3 will prove to be less of headache, mechanically speaking.
