Although booming oil prices encourage people to concentrate more on small cars, pickup trucks remain one of the main points of focus for the three Detroit carmakers, including General Motors and its Chevrolet brand. The company will thus continue the evolution of the Colorado midsize pickup truck with a new show truck to be displayed in Thailand at one of the upcoming shows to be hosted there.
Chevrolet thus rolled out a teaser today, giving us a glimpse into what to expect from the next-generation pickup truck. Not much can be said about it, as the American manufacturer remained tightlipped on the subject, revealing only that the launch moment will take place at the 32nd Bangkok International Motor Show, which begins on March 25.
“Trucks play a key role in most Southeast Asian markets,” said Susan Docherty, vice president, GMIO Sales, Marketing and Aftersales. “Nowhere is this more evident than in Thailand, where trucks like the Colorado are ingrained in the local lifestyle. Thailand was a natural place to give the public a first glimpse of our all-new Colorado.”
Wondering why Thailand? It's pretty obvious actually, as Thailand is a continuously growing auto market, at least from the point of view of commercial vehicles. According to General Motors, 2010 was a pretty successful year for commercial vehicles, the local market growing to achieve a 43 percent share of the whole auto industry in the country.
As for the new-generation Colorado, General Motors says the concept to be seen at the show will be a close to production version, in prepared for the final production that will go on sale later this year.
