VW Group decided upon a great schism recently: Porsche would be left to focus on developing the sportscar, while Audi would work on the SUVs. At least that was the plan, but already, Porsche engineers have taken the Audi’s platform and done whatever they wanted with it, improving all aspects of the suspension and finding more power from existing V6s for the Macan.
Now, it’s being reported that the next-generation Audi R8 will not share a platform with the Porsche models either. Car and Driver reports development work on the next R8 was too far along for it to switch to the new modular architecture Porsche was working on.

The new R8 is expected to arrive late in 2014 and will use carbon fiber wherever possible, including for the structural components. The new Lamborghini Gallardo might also be based on this Audi platform.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
