Here at autoevolution, we’re not big fans of commercial vehicles, but we do have a list of names in this segment that truly float our boat. The Volskwagen T5 van is definitely one of them and now it is time to talk about its successor, the T6. Our spy shooters recently came across a pair of T6 text vehicles that were out at work.
The story of the T5 started back in 2003, with the vehicle having received a serious facelift in late 2009, which marked the change from the pump duse TDIs to common-rail injection, while it could be recognized thanks to the Passat-style headlights. The big question is whether the T6 will be an actual... T6 or yet another comprehensive revamp.

While the T5’s age could point to the first version, the rumormill begs to differ. It is believed that the pedestrian safety and emissions regulations set to be enforced in Europe in 2020 will force VW to come up with a radically-improved design. If this turns out to be true, then we can expect the T6 to be an evolutionary model and wait for the T7 to bring the revolution.

The spied T6 test vehicles are a bit unusual. At first sight, these look like regular test mules, but while the covered front end is all new, the rest of the car’s body comes from the T5. Moreover, test mules don’t come with new interiors, but this ones does.

We can catch a glimpse at the new dashboard and we like what we see. We are dealing with a more massive dash, while the position of those controls on the door means the ergonomics will be even better than before.

Those overly manly shapes of the dashboard could mean VW is considering also bringing the T6 to the US, but there’s no info on that at the moment. What we do know is that the T6 will be released sometime in the course of 2015, in its three main versions: Transporter, Multivan and Caravelle.
