Earlier this year we were telling you that Scion isn’t doing quite well and will probably come up with new models in its lineup. Although, it’s a brand aimed toward young clients, but that can only be seen in two of its current vehicles. Another report now suggests the automaker will probably show us something new this fall.
Scion insiders told AutoGuide that a new hatchback and sedan model will boost the automaker’s model variety and we have real chances to see at least one of them at the Los Angeles Show in November.
The hatchback is said to have a lot in common with the 2014 Toyota Auris, which will probably make a lot of Matrix model fans happy. Who knows, maybe it will also come with the hybrid powertrain offered in Europe for those concerned about fuel consumption. For other users we expect the new model to come with at least a 1.8-liter gasoline engine, or even borrow a 2.4-liter unit from the current xB.
Stepping to the sedan, a model that Scion never offered, the car is expected to be based on the next Mazda2 platform. Which seems convenient enough, since Mazda’s model will enter production next year at the Salamanca plant in Mexico. So expect a light, compact four-door Scion with an engine that loves to rev.
Want more? The same insider said the long awaited and much controversial Scion FR-S convertible version is still under consideration. However, we believe the drop top won’t happen until the Toyota GT 86 moves to the second generation and gets designed to also work as a cabrio.
