New Saab Owner to Be Revealed This Week

This time Saab says it's serious. After last week it said the new owner of the company was to be announced by Sunday, here we are today talking about the same rumors surrounding the next investor to take over the helm of the Swedish unit. Saab is again claiming the new investor will be announced this week, in spite of media reports claiming that local luxury sports car manufacturer Koenigsegg has already sealed the deal.

Saab spokeswoman Gunilla Gustavs told Reuters that an official announced should be issued anytime this week, with the Swedish court likely to approve creditor support and give the green light to the deal on Wednesday.

"I think that during this week, chances are good. It could be any time now," Gunilla Gustavs was quoted as saying. "We are well above that, which is good. That makes Wednesday more or less a formality."

As said, Koenigsegg is now seen as the favorite to win the battle and take over the Swedish unit. Furthermore, the company's co-owner revealed that he has the ability to save Saab and bring it back to profitability in the next years.

"We think it is possible and we have several good solutions to bring with us into Saab," Eker said according to a report by AFP. "But I don't want to comment on the amount of money and who is involved," he said. "I want to make one thing clear. We are not buying Saab just to chop it up. That's not what we do."

General Motors on the other hand is still keeping things secret. "We're not making any comment at this time. We continue to work towards a resolution for the sale of Saab," said GM Europe spokesman Chris Preuss.
