New Ram SRT-10 Would Be a 1500 TRX Slayer From Hell

The Ram 1500 TRX is going away with the Final Edition, which costs a small fortune and brings a few novelties. But the Stellantis-owned brand isn't giving up on the supertruck niche, as it is currently prepping its successor.
We've seen a couple of spy videos of it in test mule form doing its thing on the streets of Detroit, and it certainly didn't feature a supercharged V8 anymore. It kind of sounded like a turbo'd BMW with a straight-six engine, and chances are it uses the Hurricane unit that kicks out 510 horsepower.

If that's the case, then it would be some 200 hp less powerful than the current Ram 1500 TRX, whose supercharged 6.2-liter V8 develops 702 hp. As a result, we think the automaker would likely boost the output, and a good way to do that is to partially electrify it. After all, it needs to be punchier and faster than its predecessor, which takes 4.5 seconds to 60 mph (97 kph) and is a 12.9-second car down the quarter mile.

The 1500 TRX going away with a bang has reminded some about another hot pickup that used to be made from 2004 to 2006. We're talking about the fabulous Dodge Ram SRT-10 that came to life in Mexico, offered with a front-engine and rear-wheel drive layout. Previewed by the VTS Concept, it featured the same engine as the Viper under the hood. The 8.3-liter V10 was good for 500 horsepower almost twenty years ago, allowing it to sprint to sixty in less than five seconds.

Ram certainly has the tools to revive this magnificent model, and if you're wondering what on earth could power it, considering that the Viper is dead for good, then the answer still comes from Dodge's stable. Don't know what we're talking about? Why, the Challenger SRT Demon 170, of course. On E85, the supercharged V8 produces as much as 1,025 horsepower, allowing it to deal with the sprint in 1.66 seconds and turning it into an 8-second car.

But since an alleged new Ram SRT-10 (or is that the Ram 1500 SRT-10?) would be bigger and, therefore, heavier than its muscle car cousin, it would also be a bit slower. Nonetheless, chances are it would hit 60 in roughly 2.5 seconds, which would make it faster than some modern-day supercars. It would also complete the quarter mile in roughly 10 seconds.

And if you're wondering what it could look like, you're not alone, as this question was also on the mind of jlord8. The rendering artist thus set to work and came up with an unofficial design proposal that stays true to the original Dodge Ram SRT-10, sprinkled with some modern cues. The digital illustration was shared on social media a few hours ago, and we have to say it's a great-looking project. Do you agree?
