Arguably one of the prettiest mid-size crossovers on the other side of the pond, the second-generation Peugeot 5008 is getting a replacement. The all-new model was spied testing last year, and more recently, our man with the cam snapped it in EV form while it was undergoing cold-weather testing.
Right off the bat, we can see that the Lion brand chose a more angular approach. The new e-5008 (EV – ICE models will be called the 5008) has a more upright nose with a closed-off grille (open on the ICE ones), slim LED headlamps, and an intricate DRL signature below them that is barely visible due to the thick camouflage.
Further down, it has a taller and narrower air intake. We can also see traditional door handles and softer lines running across its profile. The A-pillars seem to be less raked, and the back end of the roofline is a bit arched towards the tailgate, which no longer holds the rear license plate, as it was moved to a recess in the new bumper.
Shifting from the PSA EMP2 platform to the STLA Medium will translate to a more spacious cockpit with an improved cargo area. This move will also allow it to adopt a variety of powertrains. As mentioned above, this prototype featured electric power, and it might mirror the powertrains of the latest e-3008, which is its smaller sibling that also uses this construction, just like the upcoming Jeep Compass, hence the reference in the title.

Thus, its future customers should look for two battery options, a 73 and a 98 kWh unit, and up to 316 horsepower. That's the spec of the new e-3008, and there's always the possibility that the next e-5008 will bring a bit more power to the table to compensate for the larger stance. We'd expect it to be able to travel up to 400 miles (~640 km) on a full charge in its most frugal version, given that the smaller model can do 435 miles (700 km) with its battery fully juiced up.
Peugeot's all-new 5008 will join the e-5008 with internal combustion power, likely consisting of partially electrified units. As a result, it will be a versatile proposal in the mid-size crossover class on the other side of the pond, where it will inevitably take a swing at its cousin from Jeep, the next Compass.
The French automaker, which is part of Stellantis, has yet to reveal when the upcoming e-5008 (and 5008) will premiere. Nevertheless, if we were to bet on it, we'd say sometime this year, perhaps in the second half, with deliveries maybe commencing towards the end of 2024.
