Sold on the same underpinnings since 1999, with an update in 2006, the Mitsubishi Pajero won't receive its much deserved next-generation overhaul anytime soon.
Speaking to GoAuto at the Geneva Motor Show last week, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation head of product and strategy development, Ryugo Nakao, said that the aging fourth-generation Pajero will be round for at least another two years.
"The current Pajero must go on for at least two to three more years. We are still considering how to evolve it. We are still developing a successor. It is too early to comment on a timeline. We are studying all pros and cons," said Nakao.
Furthermore, the Japanese representative added that the next Pajero will be significantly lighter and more luxurious than the existing model: "The Pajero is our flagship. Off-road ability is absolutely necessary. But so is luxury atmosphere, so it will also be added."
As expected, the next generation Pajero will gain a hybrid version as well, thanks to a new platform that will be compatible with the P-HEV system already available on the Outlander crossover.
