For some reason, I haven't found any new Matchbox cars in any store around me for months. Either retailers in the area don't care about these products, or someone has bought them all before my arrival.
Either way, more of these are increasingly appealing to me and other collectors. I recently gave you a taste of the first Matchbox Moving Parts Mix for 2024, and there's information about the second set already. But this time, there are some new castings to look at. Diecast enthusiasts always love it when they can add a brand-new design to their collection.

One thing you'll notice straight away with Mix 2 is that there are no more Japanese cars inside. Instead, Mattel has split the whole thing between German-built and American-built vehicles. The 2019 Ford Ranger debuted in the Moving Parts series 2020, featuring a Matte Metalflake Grey finish and a simple, camouflage livery.

After a Collectors Series appearance in 2021, the casting returned to Moving Parts with three more iterations. The Metalflake Blue model is the best yet, but others might feel differently. The new Ranger looks like a Hot Wheels ZAMAC model, but it could be a metallic shade of silver.

The Tesla Model 3 is the highlight of the USA team here, and it's only the second variation we've seen so far. The first one arrived in red as part of the 2023 collection, but I feel the black wheels detracted from its appeal. The new variation features a blue finish and dark gray wheels and has opening doors as opposed to the opening hood on the Ranger. That's where the Chevy Tahoe resembles the Ford casting.

But the Tahoe has only been around for a short while, and you'll only find one other iteration in black for your collection. But let's move on to the exciting stuff. The 2023 Audi RS 6 Avant is a brand-new casting for Matchbox, and it looks great in black. I am figuring out why the diecast manufacturer featured an opening tailgate instead of a hood. After all, the twin-turbo V8 is the main selling point of this vehicle, which you couldn't say about the Tahoe or the Ford Ranger.

Oh well, that won't deter Audi fans from buying this new tiny replica of the RS 6. Sure, there are several options in the Hot Wheels camp, but that's an older 2017 model. The following two classic cars provide some much-needed balance to Mix 2. The new 356A has all the stunning details you'd like on a 1/64th-scale car: headlights, tail lights, and an opening rear section to reveal the little engine inside.

If you disliked the Hot Wheels Outlaw version of the 356A, you would love the Matchbox model for its simple, accurate take on the actual model. It's so good it makes me want to start up my old laptop and take the 356A out for a drive on NFS: Porsche's Schwarzwald track. And I'm sure we'll have at least one more color variation for this casting in 2024. The last collectible inside Mix 2 is the 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL.

Matchbox had previously released three variations of a similar casting in the late '70s, but it was far from as good as this one. The orange finish looks good, and if you can ignore the wheels, you'll love the opening hood revealing the six-cylinder engine inside. Matchbox designers have stayed true to BMW's solution, so this car stands out. There are two of these collectibles in each Case of eight Moving Parts models. Priced at less than $30 per Case, it could be an excellent way to kickstart your Matchbox collection.
