SUVs are being asked to do everything nowadays, from soft-roading to drag racing. This latest batch of tryhards includes two new models, the Audi RS Q3 Sportback and Porsche Macan Turbo, going up against the hardcore Alfa Stelvio Quadrifoglio. What will happen?
We're mainly interested in the gap between the Porsche Macan and the Audi RS Q3. Many years ago, we watched some Russians drag race the old Audi RS Q3 against some kind of Macan, maybe the S. It looked highly illegal, but the results were also totally unexpected.

Once again, we see that the RS Q3 is a kind of performance crossover bargain... if you can call it that. It costs about a third less than the other two more serious performance vehicles here. But what are the downsides and is the performance still comparable?

In short, no it's not. The new RS Q3, seen here racing in a sporty shade of blue and with a sporty Sportback body, is still noticeably slower than the other two. This may come down to the engine, the same 2.5 TFSI turbo you'll find in the RS3, good for 394 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque.

So, what about the Macan? Well, we think this is the Porsche that's the least deserving of the Turbo badge since the 1980s because it's got an Audi engine. No, really, it's the same 2.9-liter you'll find in the RS5, in this case rated at 434 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque.

And finally, we have the QV version of the Alfa Stelvio. It's perhaps the heaviest SUV here, but you can just buy it for the engine, a Ferrari-tuned 90-degree V6 with 503 horsepower, and the ability to give you an eargasm.

Thanks to the Carwow drag races, we know that the RS Q3 is acceptably fast, the Alfa has launch problems and Porsche makes the best gearbox. For the full outcome, just watch the video below.
