Ferrari has released a new gallery of images, showing the construction of the new P4/5 Competizione, a race car that will be driven in the 24-Hour Race at the Nurburgring. After the race car is finished, it might be redesigned as a road-going track car for sale to the general public.

The photos show how construction of the racer is going. The car will sit low to the ground and feature a massive rear wing and spoiler to increase downforce. While being loosely based on the existing 430 Scuderia’s chassis and the F430 GT2’s drivetrain, the body was constructed out of lightweight carbon fiber. Other aerodynamic features include air intakes on the hood, doors and rear of the car.

The Ferrari P4/5 Competizione will feature the suspension and V-8 drivetrain of an F430 GT2 ALMS racing car. That V8 motor is a custom-built Ferrari F136 DOHC V8 engine at 90 degrees with 32-valve and 4-valves per cylinder. This should produce 483 hp and 343 lb-ft of torque. The suspension comprises of double wishbones in the front and rear with central wheel mounts. The brakes on the F430 GT2 are Brembo steel discs with a diameter of 380x32mm in the front and 332x32mm in the rear. Stopping the discs will be 6 pistons at the front and 4 at the rear.

The competition for the P4/5 will include models from BMW, Audi and Porsche. Strong opposition is expected from last year’s winner, the M3 GT2. The team, led by Jim Glickenhaus, hopes to have the Competizione finished in time for the 24 Hours of Nurburgring Race on June 25th, in 2011.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
