Ford Europe has today made an official announcement saying that the production version of the FIesta ST will make its debut as a three-door hot supermini at the Geneva Motor Show. Ford’s performance division has been developing this car for a while now, honing it on the Nurburgring circuit and on the road.
The car that all ST fans have been waiting for since the launch of the new Fiesta about four years ago is making some big changes. Unlike the old Fiesta ST, which has a 2.0-liter Duratec engine with 150 PS, the new one is switching to a 1.6-liter EcoBoost.
Power will likely be around 180 hp, though we would have like to see the Fiesta have more than the Polo GTI and be on par with the current Clio RS, the 200 model. Anything is possible, but Ford has already added power over the output of the same engine when it’s fitted to the Focus. If they don’t deliver, the tuning industry will, so don’t despair Ford fans!
autoevolution will be attending the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
