Bugatti has confirmed a few weeks ago that research and development for the Galibier has been postponed to focus engineering efforts on the second-gen Veyron hypercar. Insider info hints that the all-new hypercar king will be able to reach a scarcely believable 286 mph, translating to 460 km/h.
According to a recent report published by the Brits from AutoCar, the follow-up model will use a reworked 8-liter W16 motor with the same quad turbo setup, but it will drop the old school multi-point injection in favor of modern direct-injection to meet Euro 6 standards. It's not really cool to talk about CO2 emissions and improved fuel consumption of the heavily anticipated Veyron replacement, so let's move on and talk about the things that interest us.

The drivetrain is expected to make use of an electric motor. Combined with the internal combustion mill, the total output will be around 1,500 ponies, slightly more than what Hennessey has in store for the upcoming Venom F5. Conceived around a carbon fiber monocoque, the second Veyron might shed a few pounds compared to the heavyweight outgoing model. A Bugatti insider has told the previously mentioned auto publication that the second-generation Veyron will be unveiled at the end of 2016.

“Five developmental prototypes with differing powertrain combinations have been constructed up to now,” declared that Bugatti insider. “They are based on the existing car but use various solutions that are being considered for the new model.” Even Walter de Silva, the VW Group's design chief, has mentioned recently that the new model will be "more than" just a replacement. He even used fancy words such as it being a "piece of art" and a car that will "redefine the benchmarks." Here's hope he isn't just bluffing.

Until further information surfaces, company sources have confirmed to AutoCar that 405 units of the Bugatti Veyron have been sold up to this moment, with orders placed for another 30. The remaining 15 examples of the breed include demo vehicles and show cars that will be reconditioned before being sold.
