The highly anticipated Hennessey Venom F5 shapes up to be quite the successor for the blistering fast Venom GT. Named after the strongest tornado on the Fujita scale, the main target for the upcoming Venom F5 is to break the 290 mph (466 km/h) barrier.
According to Hennessey, the Texas-built F5 will improve the Venom GT's drag coefficient from 0.44 to below 0.40, while still generating enough downforce through the body's shape and the underbody venturi tunnels, as well as a rear diffuser and a cool retractable rear wing.
What you see in the photo gallery below is the real deal, and boy it looks good. That bold, low drag shape of the body shell looks like a million bucks. Speaking of bucks, Hennessey Performance tells that "at least 30 Venom F5s will be produced," at a price higher than the $1.2 million Venom GT.
“We are very excited about this next chapter of the Venom, which brings forth an all-new design that is not only a powerful and unique statement that our clients are looking for, but a vehicle that will achieve even higher performance through improved aerodynamics,” declared John Hennessey. Besides aero wizardry, the clean-sheet design will employ lightweight yet tough carbon-fiber and aluminum. The weight will remain under 1,300 kg (2,866 lbs), which is just slightly more than the Venom GT’s 1.244-kg curb weight, while the turbocharged V8 tower-of-power will churn out at least 1,400 horsepower to the rear wheels.
In terms of tech, a single clutch paddle-shift transmission will be offered, along with a more purist H-pattern manual transmission. Another new feature comes in the form of a GPS-based stability and traction control system. It will channel the Venom F5’s immense power and provide an increased margin of safety, whether on a racetrack or back road. “Of course, the Venom F5 retains the raw, explosive edge that makes the Venom GT such a thrill ride,” added Hennessey partner Don Goldman, “but these changes will make the F5 easier and more satisfying to drive, day in and day out.”
