So this just popped up on the official Bugatti Twitter channel, and your guess is as good as ours. The narrator talks about a new chapter beginning and a mysterious "I" who goes beyond reality, chasing the day, the night, the new dawn. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the first teaser for the all-new Bugatti Chiron.
The #imaginEBugatti hashtag doesn't say much, but it's worth digging into it's meaning. Let's forget for a moment that there was an EB110 hypercar before the Veyron and a four-door sedan concept known as the EB218. For us, EB stands for Ettore Bugatti, the man that founded Bugatti at the beginning of the 20th century. From the Type 10 of 1908 to the soon-to-debut Chiron, every car with the big B up its nose is a testament of automotive aristocracy... and top speed.
Known for the exceptional engineering that went into its cars, Bugatti established itself as an automaker by winning racing events all over Europe. The first Monaco Grand Prix was won by a Bugatti, the Targa Florio was won by a Bugatti, and a Type 35 was driven to victory by Tazio Nuvolari at the 1927 Italian Grand Prix. Heck, the Italian-born French automotive engineer's Type 57 won the Le Mans 24 Hours twice!
The Bugatti Chiron then. Our spy photographers caught it camouflaged as a Veyron, but we sort of know what's hiding under the bodywork. In a nutshell, we're dealing with the fastest hybrid automobile in the world, expected to surpass the Veyron Super Sport's record top speed of 269.80 mph (434.2 km/h). We hear that 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) will also go down by some tenths of a second under 2.6 seconds. The beastly acceleration is a rumoured 2 seconds dead, and it's the product of electric-driven get-up-and-go.
As there is no official information on the soon-to-be-revealed Bugatti Chiron, we're much obliged to tell you that VW Group numero uno Martin Winterkorn promised to deliver a hybrid hypercar with 1,500 horsepower. Torque is projected at 1,106 lb-ft (1,500 Nm) while top speed is a mind-boggling 288 mph (463.49 km/h). The added performance comes courtesty of an updated 8-liter W16 quad-turbo tower-of-power, 92 percent new or modified components, and a still unknown number of electric motors. Damn!
You may find these provisional figures for the 2016 Bugatti Chiron somewhat impossible to believe, but the description of the adjacent video teaser ends with "Imagine the impossible." Let's just leave it at that.
