Recent spyshots of the new X5 M taken in Spartanburg, South Carolina, bring new details about the upcoming uber-SUV that make our blood boil. Apparently, the test vehicles are fitted with warnings that claim the new models are capable of a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph).
Now, in the world of supercars, that’s not a huge deal. Some consider any M car worthy of supercar status but that’s not the case. Especially when we’re talking about a full-on SUV that weighs over 2 tons. Imagine that thing going at 186 mph on the highway. We really can’t...

Of course, the car will probably be electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h) or 174 mph (280 km/h) when it will be launched but the fact that it can reach that kind of speed tells us another interesting detail: the power and torque figures should go up.

When BMW will take the veils off the new F85 X5 M we might meet the next generation S63 engine we’ve been waiting for. The previous model used the first turbocharged unit ever developed by the M division that makes 555 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque. It’s an incredible unit that will turn most tires into pieces immediately.

The updated version was used on the F10 M5 for the first time and has 560 HP and the same amount of torque. However, thanks to Valvetronic and Vanos it uses less fuel to go around. Now, with the new models, things are bound to get even more hardcore.

Rumors have it that the power output will be closer to 600 HP and the torque level will reach well over the 500 lb-ft (680 Nm) barrier, probably towards 600 lb-ft (800 Nm). At least that’s what it would need to take the 2 tons of metal up to 300 km/h (186 mph).

Another good news is that the 6-speed automatic gearbox will be gone and the new models will get the 7-speed DCT unit that makes them faster and more economical. With that, the new engine and the xDrive system, the new X5 M and X6 M will probably do 100 km/h (62 mph) in around 4 seconds.
