This past May, BMW showed the world the first glimpse of a car it calls Vision iNEXT, the first of a breed of new Bavarian electric vehicle. On September 9, the official unveiling of the car will kick off at the Munich Airport.
Why at the airport, you ask? Because BMW plans to show the car in a manner never used before: aboard a Boeing 777F belonging to Lufthansa Cargo, on four airports on three continents cities across the world.

The plane carrying the Vision iNEXT will land in New York, San Francisco, Beijing and back in Munich to show the car to more than 300 international media representatives. They will be invited inside the plane sitting on the tarmac, take their photos, have their say and then asked to leave, as the plane prepares to take off to its next destination.

To properly transport and present the iNEXT, BMW and the airline will use two configurations of the cargo bay, one for each of the operations. The carmaker says it will use 30 tons of material to build a suitable platform on which to showcase the car.

7.5 km of wiring, 78,000 LEDs paired in 165 video LED modules, and ten 13,000 ANSI lumen projectors will be used to properly bathe the car in light as it is revealed.

“iNEXT is our mobility proposition for the future, so it’s only logical that the BMW Vision iNEXT should be presented to a global audience in a fresh new style,” said in a statement Klaus Fröhlich, the man in charge with the groups' development.

The car will enter production in 2021 at Plant Dingolfing. It is the model that started life as the Next 100 concept shown for the first time two years ago.

The car-to-be has been presented as the technological flagship of the electric brand, one that will incorporate all the advancements made in recent years in road mobility.
