We all know the specs say the TT RS is faster than every hot hatch that's not a rally car. But it can't hurt to see yet another drag race between it and the RS3, can it?
YouTuber Archie Hamilton put this one together with his friends at BOTB, who want you to buy their car lottery tickets. And after hearing these two race, we wonder if any of our readers will say "heck, I'll spend my beer money on that."
Anyway, the technology for either of these two cars hasn't changed very much. Both use a 2.5-liter TFSI engine, linked to an AWD system and 7-speed gearbox which are known to be better than their VW Group counterparts. The RS3 has had this 400 horsepower output since its facelift in 2017 while the TT RS has sported since 2016 but got the GPF during a mid-life facelift this year.
People say it's much slower at launch because of it, and we want you to keep in mind that the RS3 is pre emissions regulations while you watch the race. So as we mentioned, the specs and all previous drag races heavily favor the TT RS. But you'll see how the RS3 is actually much faster off the line in the first race. There's not much between cars with the same engine, so the launch is critical.
After that first loss, the TT RS goes on to win three races, two of which are rolling ones. It almost feels like Audi has given the 2019 model a bit more power than they advertised. But we feel like we've learned something here. If you want to modify a TT RS to 600 horsepower and race supercars, you're probably better off with an older model.
But what do you guys think, has the 2.5 TFSI technology peaked out and should the next sports models be fully electric monsters? I don't think I could ever live in a world without that sound.
