Audi has just released three sketch images of the news A3, including one for the saloon version which was shown in concept form at the recent Geneva show. The images reveal the fact that the three-door version of the small car will have crisper edges, in line with the current model range, instead of the angular looks of the current model.
This might mean the German carmaker has finally decided to make a contender to coupe hatchbacks like the Scirocco and Megane.
The lines of the taillights show clear inspiration from the Q5 and the side view is dominated by the large-dyameter 10-spoke wheels that shadow big ventilated disks all-round.
The third image shows the interior in much a simpler and cleaner configuration that what we have grown accustomed to. It looks like the A3 will also get high-tech features from its bigger brothers, like the MMI systems, plus a large, ultra-thin pop up screen that replaces the standard infotainment systems.
According to Autocar, the saloon will arrive after the three and five-door hatchbacks and is intended mainly for the US and Chinese markets. However, it should also arrive in the UK sometime next year. Sources suggest that the next A3 will also get a number of new drivetrain options, including a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid and one that uses natural gas, plus a rumored all-electric one.
The new A3 is expected to arrive in the flesh in three-door form at next year’s Geneva show, with the five-door and saloon to follow later in the year.
