Considered by many one of the best looking hatches out there, the Audi A3 is getting ready to try a new segment of the market, provided the concept which is shown at the Geneva Auto Show proves to be a hit amongst visitors.

The A3 morphed for the Swiss show into a sedan, and one that, if you are to ask us, lives up to the fame of its hatchback sibling. Part of the huge number of new models German group Volkswagen will be presenting at the event, the A3 Sedan provides us with a glimpse of what VW plans to use in its fight against Toyota for the number one spot.

Planned as the successor of the successor of the first ever A4, with which it shares most of the design lines, only with a more aggressive and modern interpretation. Powering the model is a 2.5l turbocharged five-cylinder engine, the same which is used on another Geneva premiere, the RS 3 Sportback. In the A3 sedan, the unit develops 408 ps, a troop controlled via a seven-speed S tronic transmission.

According to the limited information available at this time, this fine couple gives the model some very well balanced performance figures, with the naught to sixty acceleration rated at 4.1 seconds. No word yet on the top speed of the model.

autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
