Summer is now pushing the throttle pedal to the floor, so we thought we’d give you an open-top feast today. A little bit earlier, we showed you renderings of the upcoming BMW 2-Series Cabrio and the potential Mercedes A-Class Cabrio, so we couldn’t skip the Cabrio version of the new Audi A3.
As Audi has accustomed us, the A3 Convertible will use the same styling cues as the hatchback model, which made its debut earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, with the exception of the canvas roof. This will be operated by a hydraulic mechanism that could allow it to fold in as little as 9 seconds.
Customers will be able to choose between two TFSI petrol units (different versions of a 1.4-liter unit) and a 2.0-liter TDI oil burner, with power ranging from 122 to 180 hp. These are the launch engines, but other powerplants might follow subsequently. The units will be matted to a six-speed manual or to a seven-speed S Tronic transmission.
The new Audi A3 Convertible is set to make its debut at the end of next year, but we’ll probably find out more about the car until then.
