When Ford introduced the Edge mid-sized crossover SUV in 2006, that’s what the people wanted - not a large barge on wheels, but an AWD vehicle with much better packaging than an Expedition. The new Edge adds even more capability and it’s more efficient than its predecessor thanks to a lot of enhancements.
Priced from $28,995 (including $895 for destination), the 2015 Edge is similarly priced as the 2014 model year. Opt for the Sport and you’re looking at $29,495 according to a Ford spokesperson cited by Edmunds. It may be the first Ford to come fitted with an EcoBoost engine as standard, but the 2-liter mill can be replaced by a punchy 2.7 six-cylinder EcoBoost on the Sport or a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 engine.

Each of the aforementioned powerplants is coupled to a six-speed automatic that is called SelectShift. Underpinned by the same platform used by the new Fusion / Mondeo, the Edge also boasts with the new Ford-developed adaptive steering technology for improved handling. But if you’re into towing, you’ll be happy to find out that even the Edge can tow 3,500 pounds if you add AWD and a towing package.

Slated to make its North American debut at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show later this month, the Blue Oval announces the 2015 Ford Edge is going to be shipped to dealers nationwide in the first quarter of next year. If it were our money, we’d go for the Sport trim with the 2.7 twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost, active grille shutters and an air-curtain system that improves the aerodynamics around the wheels.

Even though pricing for the European-specification 2015 Ford Edge isn’t available yet, we need to point out that the Kuga’s bigger brother won’t get any petrol powerplants in that part of the world. Because people round there are in love with the frugality of oil burners, the Blue Oval decided to shoehorn two variations of the 2.0 TDCi turbo diesel under the model's bonnet. The first of them oil burners has 180 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque on tap, while the more potent TDCi boasts with 210 hp and 450 Nm.
