NAIAS: Fiat 500 BEV Concept Revealed

Chrysler and Fiat have used the flesh of the 500 model to showcase electric technology bones, by revealing the Fiat 500 BEV at Detroit.

The electric concept car uses Chrysler’s modular electric technology, developed over the last three years, but no further technical details have been released about the vehicle.

However, it has been declared that the 500 BEV is just a concept car and there are no plans to make it available for the public. Apparently, it was only created as a testbed; one which would offer information about the electric powertrain’s behavior in a small vehicle.

Fiat has made no compromise (at least from the company’s standpoint) and has provided the Abarth body kit for this car. The concept is displayed next to the proper Abarth.

This might not be such a wise move, as we are quite curious about the current and future 500 Abarth owners’ feelings about it. Because when we’re talking about this kind of PETROL heads, feelings can be hurt. Why would you make the Abarth vehicles a separate brand and then do something like this to it? It might just seem like a minor thing to some, but to true enthusiasts it matters.

Even if this vehicle will ever come into production, we would recommend the 900 cc two-cylinder turbocharged eco version, which Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne was talking about at the end of 2009.
