NAIAS: Cadillac XTS Platinum Hybrid Concept

The future of the luxury sedan segment, in the form of the Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept is being previewed this week at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) by American manufacturer GM. At least this is how GM hopes to future will look like, because to us, the Cadillac looks just not much different than any other Caddys showed in recent years.

At least this the impression we got just by looking at the XTS. GM however says it has designed the car as a "personal headquarters, built for efficiency, luxury and connectivity."

The XTS features Cadillac’s 3.6L V6 direct injection gas engine, paired with a plug-in hybrid system. The latter allows the battery to be charged from a standard electrical outlet, allowing the sedan to provide, in theory, at least twice as much fuel economy than a regular hybrid.

The combined system provides an estimated 350 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque.

On the inside, designers say they took inspiration from nature, "specifically the intricate layers of petals that combine to form an orchid." The interior comes in light cream color leather, contrasted by dark elements.

The most praised feature of the new concept is the in-car electronics system, which has been designed to minimize the traditional buttons and switches, as well as creative intuitive interaction between the driver and the car.

The XTS Platinum Concept was designed to deliver an engaging driving experience without compromising the functional features, space and comfort customers seek in a luxury car,” Bryan Nesbitt, Cadillac general manager said in a release. “It is a new vision of luxury that uses advanced technology to deliver functionality efficiently and rewardingly.
