There is definitely a lot of commotion around the upcoming Monterey Car Week 2023 (August 11-20) and its many related events. For what it's worth, Bugatti chose The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, as its main venue of exposure.
With every passing year, it feels like automakers are following trends and moving away from regular, traditional fixed-location automotive events like the classic car shows worldwide. Instead, they seem to love the dynamics involved with venues that also bring out a component of fast-moving vehicles – just look at the hype surrounding the Goodwood Festival of Speed or the Monterey Car Week.

Already there are a lot of announcements pertaining to new model introductions at the many events (The Quail, Pebble Beach, Legends of the Autobahn), from electrics like the Acura ZDX crossover or BMW's i5 M60 to exotics such as the latest sports car from Aston Martin or Hennessey's mind-bending 'Bare Carbon' Venom F5 Revolution Roadster.

Interestingly, there will also be 'zombie' cars among the reveals. Ultra-expensive ones, by the way. So, after Bugatti thrilled the audience at Goodwood FoS with the track-only Bolide, now it's set to amaze with "a timeless and incomparable homage to the era-defining moments in the history of Bugatti." It's just a teaser for now, as the world premiere will take place on August 10 at 10:00 (CEST) or 13:00 (PT).

There isn't a lot of information about the premiere – something about paying homage to the past, the obvious implication of the Sur Mesure customizing and personalization division, plus the location (The Quail), and the fact that it's going to be painted (at least partially) in gold. But as far as we can tell, that's definitely a Chiron or something based on the model.

And that's why we are calling it a 'zombie' car since Bugatti ended production last year with all manufacturing slots being sold out well in advance. Of course, with these exotic companies, it's customary to keep a surprise or two in their pockets, especially now that the brand's mainstay series is on hiatus, waiting for its 2024 successor.

So, adding two and two results that Bugatti will honor Monterey Car Week – The Quail, a Motorsport Gathering in particular – with a new version of the beloved Chiron that was made entirely bespoke by their special division Sur Mesure and it will partially or fully wear golden attire to honor the past. More details are indistinguishable from the artsy teasers that include a short video and the usual hand drawings of an artist, plus the car in profile basked in gold-tinted light.

Luckily, we do not have to wait long before the curtain falls behind the company's latest automotive art piece. And dare we say it's a fitting creation for what the Monterey Car Week represents today in the automotive world – glamour and power on four wheels!
