In theory, a drag race between an S550 Ford Mustang GT and an older Dodge Challenger R/T doesn't make too much sense. And that's because looking at the best quarter-mile time of the two muscle cars reveals that the Blue Oval machine should leave its Mopar adversary in the dust. However, a real-life battle between the two coupes can deliver plenty of giggles.
And, to prove the point mentioned above, we've brought along a piece of footage that documents such a race. The Mustang GT and the Challenger R/T fortunately skipped the street racing fever, with the two getting together at the drag strip.

To be more precise, the Dodge and the Ford met at the Mission Raceway Park in Canada and the two didn't simply engage in a one-time drag race. Instead, the slabs of America battled on multiple occasions, as you'll get to see in the clip at the bottom of the page.

As far as we know, both machines we have here come in factory stock form, packing manual transmissions. So yes, getting the things off the line wasn't exactly easy.

In theory, the Challenger R/T should cover the quarter-mile stunt in around 14 seconds, with the 'Stang being considerably quicker. However, as you'll notice in the stunt we have here, things aren't all that simple.

Nevertheless, we have to mention that any drag race of the sort actually involves two battles. The first, which also happens to be the official one, involves the figures delivered at the end of the 1,320-feet run.

As for the second, this has to do with what one's eyes tell. And no, the two aren't always the same, being split by multiple factors - for instance, the numbers race doesn't take the drivers' reaction time into account, unlike the visual part of the sprint.
