A woman living estranged from her mother had to find out in the paper and from relatives that she, the woman, had died in a car crash and that a memorial service for her had already taken place.
Brittany Johnson-Webster is very much alive and well, but her own mother took out an obituary in the paper and even organized a memorial service at a local church in Ferguson, Missouri, in her name. The mother’s name has not been made public, but Brittany tells WTSP that she’s probably addicted to drugs.

The two hadn’t kept in touch ever since Brittany went to live with her grandparents. Then, one day, one aunt contacted her and showed her a piece of paper that informed her she had died in a car wreck. Realizing that her own mother had done this, Brittany felt “stunned” and “sad,” she tells the publication.

Brittany also blames her mother for inviting bad karma into her life by telling people she’d been killed in a car crash.

“She claimed I died in a car accident and the next day someone had pulled out in front of me and I slammed on my brake and spun out three times, and all I could think was I'm going to die, my mom's speaking my death into existence,” she tells the publication.

That aside, Brittany is convinced her mother did this so she could scam people of money. She’s already apologized publicly for her mother’s actions and she even tried confronting her – so far, she hasn’t gotten a response.

Brittany doesn’t know where her mother lives or the crowd she hangs with. She believes she’s addicted to drugs and that she pulled this stunt so she could raise money to sustain this addiction. The church were the service for Brittany was held says they had no idea the person it was being held for was still alive.
