Moscow Drivers Beginning to Mask Plates With Paper

What can we say about this trend other than the obvious: it’s a stupid idea. As far as we know, most countries enforce the idea that keeping your number plates clean and readable is your responsibility.
But maybe the Russians think they can dodge the law with a simple piece of paper. A trend has been forming in Moscow in the past few months, where drivers are covering part of their license plate with a piece of paper. This is most often done at the back of the car, but sometimes at the front as well.

The idea probably is that if the slow police cars can’t catch up to you, you won’t get a fine for speeding because they can’t see the number plate. And if the do, you can claim innocence by saying you don’t put the paper there.

These Russians... dodgy fellows, aren’t they?
