The world of electric vehicles and hybrids is becoming more crowded every day and the latest name that will launch new contenders in this specific sector is Mitsubishi. The Japanese manufacturer intends to launch no more, no less than eight hybrid and battery-powered vehicles by 2015, trying to take full advantage of the growing demand all over the world. Mitsubishi is already manufacturing the i-MiEV electric vehicle, as well as the Peugeot iOn and Citroen C-Zero for PSA Peugeot Citroen.
"We will aim to boost sales with globally competitive vehicles such as compact models that meet the needs of the middle class in emerging markets, as well as SUVs that appeal to customers across many regions, including mature markets," Mitsubishi President Osamu Masuko was quoted as saying by Automotive News Europe.
Mitsubishi is gearing up to introduce new concepts at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show that will preview its future models, all of which are believed to be powered by new and more environmentally-friendly vehicles.
The so-called Concept Global Small is rumored to give us a glimpse into how the future Colt replacement will look like, with voices familiar with the matter hinting that Mitsubishi will use small displacement engines for the car, more precisely a 1.0l or a 1.2l power plant, equipped with regenerative braking, start-stop technology and linked to a new-generation CVT transmission.
Furthermore, the company has recently confirmed that it's been working on a new product range for the United States, with the models currently assembled in the country to be discontinued in 2013.
