In an attempt to put an end to the company's downfall on the US market, Mitsubishi is considering a couple of brand new models as part of a long-term plan.
According to Automotive News, executive vice president of corporate planning for Mitsubishi Motors North America, Masatoshi Hasegawa, said Mitsubishi is evaluating returning to the mid-sized sedan and large compact crossover segments.
"We are looking into a possibility for the [mid-sized sedan] segment, and we may look into maybe a bigger brother to the Outlander," he said, adding that the comeback is "not going to happen overnight". In fact, new Mitsubishi models won't see the light of day before 2015, when the Japanese company may also be adding a successor to the Lancer.
"We went into a descent, so it's going to take time to get back up again. But I think now we will definitely go into an upward trend," Hasegawa said, pointing out the new US national advertising campaign readied for the 2014 Outlander.
Mitsubishi US sales dropped 27 percent to just 57,790 vehicles last year.
