As it's often the case with major automotive events, many manufacturers are already spoiling what models and concepts they'll come with at the Paris Motor Show. There are less than two weeks to go until the event kicks off, but Mitsubishi didn't manage to keep the Outlander PHEV Concept-S a secret.
It was only at the beginning of September when the peeps from Mitsubishi released two teaser photos of the thing, but now they've returned with proper pics of the Outlander PHEV Concept-S. Measuring 4,76 meters in length, 1,84 meters wide and sporting a 1,7-meter long wheelbase, this concept is a special design showcase for the normal Outlander PHEV.

Compared to the production version, the Concept-S boasts with edgy, Japanese styling, boasting a front fascia that's more futuristic than the Gundam styling of the production Outlander PHEV. We don't mean to nitpick here, but the face reminds us of a couple of new or updated Honda models, but that's no bad thing if we're honest. Nevertheless, the cabin is way more impressive than the exterior design exercise.

A black & burgundy cabin color scheme contrasts beautifully with the Platinum White exterior hue with glass flake finish. In comparison to the sea of plastic of the regular Outlander PHEV's interior, designers have given the Concept-S a fair amount of black wood grain trim with elegant silver accents, along with soft fine leather inserts. Moreover, the center console design takes inspiration from Japanese traditional black lacquered boxes, Mitsubishi says.

As for the oily bits, the Twin Motor 4WD powertrain is virtually a version 2.0 of the plug-in hybrid system powering the Outlander PHEV. In this application, it uses 2 permanent magnet synchronous electric motors fed by a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, while the internal combustion end of the deal is taken care of by a 2-liter four-cylinder petrol engine.
