The i-MiEV fought against three competitors: each of the four cars were seen as a “concrete projects for sustainable mobility in terms of environmental protection or security” and was judged by a panel of 18 design, automotive, fashion and media representative figures. The judges used their various cultural and professional backgrounds to evaluate the vehicles.
“This Grand Prize is a great honour and is a further incentive for our engineers to continue pursuing Mitsubishi Motors’ pioneering work in promotion of popularization of alternative powertrains,”, President of Mitsubishi Motors France, Kiyoshi Teshima, said during the award ceremony.
The i-MiEV was introduced to the Japanese market in July 2009, with production of the export-destined left-hand drive version scheduled to start in October 2010. Mitsubishi Motor Corporation’s EV aim to have a significant contribution to the protection of the environment through its zero CO2 tailpipe emissions and effort to reduce wheel-to-wheel CO2 generation.
The I-MiEV will be available in Europe later this year, with a charging system compatible with the European 220/240 V household outlets. The car is expected to have a charging time of seven hours.
