There have been too many signs of the Mistubishi Evo's death to ignore these. It is obvious that the Evolution, at least in the form we used to know, is set to perish. Well, at least we can now report that the Evo won't be axed quite now, with the rally-bred sedan set to receive a 2015 model year.
A Mitsubishi Motors North America spokesman recently told AutoGuide the automaker is"committed to introducing the 2015 model year Lancer Evolution," explaining that July will make the start of the 2015 MY Lancer Evolution. We see this as some sort of a last change to get out of a Mitsubishi showroom with a brand new Evo waiting for you to slide its massive wing-gifted tail around.

As you know, the Evo was born in the world of rallying, but Mitsubishi has left that stage and is currently in the midst of a rebranding process that should see it become an eco vehicle maker.

For the last few years, various Mitsubishi officials have given us their explanations of why the current Evo X is the last of petrol-powered the supercar-hunting sedans.

Of course, this is where the land of speculation begins, with the most desirable route being to assume that Mitsubishi still wants the Evo as a halo car, but will give it hybrid power.

In spite of this, 2014 has already given us two reports that state otherwise. At first, we were told that the Evo would be scrapped in order to make room for a 3000GT revival. The story of Mitsubishi dismissing a performance sedan in favor of a sportscar went down the drain when the second report emerged. This seems to make a bit more sense (business case-wise), explaining that Mistubishi's range-topped will be some sort of a crossover mixing a hybrid powertrain with interesting performance.

We'd like to remind you that over in Europe, the Evo is set to go down in glory, having recently received its most powerful special edition ever, the FQ-440 MR. Yep, this means 440 horses straight from the factory.

At the moment, this is the info we are left with. We heard the recent heat wave has boosted Mitsubishi's air conditioning business though...
