wiss driver Felix Egolf recently wanted to know how economical a compact SUV can be, so he filled a Mitsubishi ASX with diesel and went on a journey to see how far he could go on one tank.
The ASX, which was powered by the 117 hp 1.8-liter DI-D oil burner and didn’t come with any modifications, clocked 1,852 km (1,150 miles) before emptying its tank, which means that it registered a record fuel efficiency of 3.76 liters per 100 km or 62.5 US mpg, which tops Mitsubishi’s official figure of 5.5 l/100 km (42.8 mpg) by quite a margin.

Felix Egolf chose a route that includes all kind of situations that one can encounter in everyday traffic. His trip started at the Mitsubishi dealer on Harkingen, Switzerland and went on through Vienna, Munchen, Zurich, Basel and then back to the starting point. It seems that he used two open roads for 2 two thirds of the journey, only 3 percent city driving ,with the rest of the driving going on on highways.

The Swiss man tells us that he didn’t use any other technique than the ones that are usual for this kind of feats, such as not using the climate control system, foreseeing upcoming bends and so on.
