Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announced its global production, as well as domestic sales and export figures for November 2010. The Japanese carmaker has seen a 11.2 percent increase in global production compared to last year’s month of November, coupled with 41.2 percent higher exports but its domestic sales have shrunk by 8.4 percent, in line with the shrinking of the Japanese market.
The carmaker managed to produce 103,848 vehicles worldwide, 11.2 percent up over November 2009 and the thirteenth consecutive monthly increase since the same month. A total of 57,943 units rolled off Japanese production lines alone, 12.9 percent up from a year ago and marking the twelfth consecutive month of production increase. Passenger car output was up 10.6 percent at 51,401 units, while commercial vehicle output saw an increase of 37 .4 percent to 6,542 units. Overseas production volume totaled 45,905 units, 9.1 percent up over last year’s November, marking the thirteenth consecutive monthly year-on-year increase.
Mitsubishi’s Japanese sales shrank by 8.4 percent this month from November 2009. This is the third consecutive month they failed to exceed the figure for the previous year. Sales of passenger cars at 7,783 units were 16.9 percent down year-on-year, while sales of commercial vehicles at 4,344 units were 11.8 percent up over the same period last year. Minicar sales were relatively stable at 9,101 units sold, down just 5.7 percent.
The total export shipments from Japan of 43,252 units were 41.2 percent up compared to November 2009. Exports to Asia of 6,586 units were a very healthy 131.7 percent up, mainly due to a 201.0 percent increase in shipments to China and to continuing firm demand from Malaysia and the Philippines. Exports to North America at 6,755 units were 1.7 percent down as a 41.0 percent year-on-year increase in shipments to the US was dragged down by a 25 percent year-on-year drop in shipments to Canada.
