MINI One MINIMALISM Line

German carmaker BMW announced a revised range of petrol engines for the MINI, MINI Clubman and MINI Convertible which will meet the EU5 exhaust emissions standard in Europe and the ULEV II standard in the USA from spring 2010.

New to the model range is the MINI One Convertible, powered by a low-fuel consumption and low-emissions four-cylinder engine producing 72 kW/98 hp.

According to the manufacturer, the new MINI One MINIMALISM Line, available with two engine variants, has the lowest
emissions levels of any petrol MINI, thanks to features such as optimized engine technology, Brake Energy Regeneration, the Auto Start Stop function and Shift Point Display, all helping the vehicles to achieve a CO2 figure of 119 g/km.

Joining the range for model year 2010 are the 55 kW and 72 kW variants of the MINI One MINIMALISM Line, fitted as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox and the driving stability control system DSC. Average fuel consumption for each model has been brought down to 5.1 l/ 100 km in the EU test cycle.

The new engine, fitted in the MINI Cooper S, MINI Cooper S Clubman and MINI Cooper S Convertible, reportedly is the world’s most efficient unit in this displacement class.

It develops a maximum output of 135 kW/184 hp at 5,500 rpm and has peak torque of 240 Nm at 1,600 rpm. Average fuel economy in the EU test cycle ranges between 5.8 l/100 km – 6.0 l/100 km, while the and CO2 output is rated between 136 g/km - 139 g/km, depending on the model.

As for the new MINI One Convertible, it is fitted with a 72 kW/98 hp engine that allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.3 seconds and on to a maximum 181 km/h, while achieving a fuel economy of 5.7 l/100 km in the EU test cycle and emitting just 133 g/km of CO2.
