After several rumors these past few months saying the MINI coupe is on the way, the British manufacturer today made it official. Right when the brand celebrates its 50th anniversary, a new MINI is born. The Coupe Concept will make its first public appearance at next month's Frankfurt Auto Show.

We must say, the coupe stance fits the MINI like a glove. As the manufacturer says, the Coupe comes with an "unusually attractive vision of how the model family may well develop in future."

The Coupe Concept is a mix of previous MINI models, with a twist of originality. The front side panels are sourced from the MINI Convertible, while the body joint is inspired by the MINI Cooper S. On the other side, the new positioning of the A-pillars makes up for a brand new roof line.

And if you find the rear of the MINI appealing, don't think it looks like that just for the sake of it. The manufacturer says the rear end has been designed more with driving dynamics and efficiency rather than looks.

On the interior, the Coupe Concept boasts sport seats and three-spoke leather sports steering wheel with multifunction buttons, while the overall look of the dashboard keeps in line with what MINI used us to by now. Additionally, two Chronoswiss clocks to the left and right of the center-mounted rev counter are reminiscent of earlier MINI concepts.

The two seater was built by MINI so that it can accommodate most of the engines in the manufacturer's line-up, including the most powerful engine available in the range: the 1.6l twin-scroll turbocharged unit. (211 hp and a peak torque of 260 Nm.)

As MINI said, the Coupe Concept is a preview of what is to come from the British manufacturer in its second half-century of existence. Today, August 26, marks 50 years since the first MINI came into the public eye.

Happy Birthday, MINI!
