After this piece of news, we really don’t know what MINI is thinking. We were disappointed when we learned that they’re not going to make the Rocketman any more, and now a report from CarandDriver tells us they’re instead going to make something really… stupid.
At the Geneva Motor Show, they unveiled the Clubman-based Clubvan Concept, and we took it as a bit of a joke. The rear doors didn’t open wide enough, the boot lip you normally see on a car is useless if you want to use it as a van, and the worst thing of all was that the third door on the passenger side was useless.

These are all thinks that should be addressed if MINI wants to turn this into a production vehicle, and they do. Reports indicate the Clubvan is even coming to the US market in September 2013.

This niche vehicle will be aimed at small commercial deliverers and couriers, with the obvious advantage for them being the MINI badge.

The US market will probably get the 1.6-liter engine from the regular Cooper, while Europe should also benefit from the Cooper D diesel engine, as this is the industry norm.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
