Following the same luxurious and elegant trend imposed by many of its current models, German automakers unveiled the special-edition CLS Grand Edition, a new model regarded as a “highlight to the segment of four-door premium coupes.” Basically, the CLS Grand Edition is mainly based on an eye-catching exterior styling but also comes with a number of interior enhancements over the base CLS model.

First of all, the exterior. The special-edition model comes with a so-called “designo magno platinum” matt paint finish said to be highly scratch and dirt resistant. There are multiple colors available, including obsidian black, iridium silver, carneol red and flint grey. The whole lineup wears a “Grand Edition” logo on the front wings to differentiate the special-edition model from the stock variant.

In addition, Mercedes installed bi-xenon headlamps with dark headlamp casings, active light function and cornering system in the fog lamps, headlamp cleaning system and dynamic headlamp range adjustment. AMG 18-inch 5-spoke light-alloy wheels with pockets painted in titanium grey and with 245/40 R 18 (front) and 275/35 R 18 (rear) tires also come with the new Grand Edition CLS.

Interiors also received a bunch of goodies, including here high-quality laurel wood, leather steering wheel, sport pedals with brushed stainless steel plus a bunch of next-gen technologies such as Parktronic, telephony, COMAN APS Multimedia control and display system.

The engine is basically the same as on the standard CLS lineup, namely the V6 unit that produces 292 horsepower with a fuel consumption of 9.1 liters per 100 kilometers.

Prices of the special-edition CLS Grand Edition start at 67,294 euros, Mercedes said in a statement released to the press, with orders available since January and deliveries due to start in March 2009.
