Mercedes-Benz will be displaying its new high-tech concept called “Concept BlueZero” at its booth at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2009. For those of you who don't know, BlueZero is a brand new electric/hybrid vehicle built by Mercedes and available in three versions: E-Cell, F-Cell and E-Plus.

The E-Cell is a fully electric model which comes under the form of a five-door compact car, being equipped with lithium-ion batteries capable of providing an estimated range of approximately 100 km (62 miles). A two-hour recharge should be enough to restore the batteries, German publication Auto Motor und Sport informed.

The other two versions, the BlueZero F-Cell and BlueZero E-Plus, are based on smart fortwo's turbocharged three-cylinder engine but still connected to lithium-ion batteries. Similar to other hybrids on the market, the gasoline engine is used to recharge the batteries while in motion, as well as during braking, using kinetic energy. These two variants could travel up to 600 km (373 miles).

The BlueZero F-Cell is a bit special when compared to the other two variants, as it's able to convert hydrogen into electricity using a high-end fuel cell, especially designed by Mercedes for the BlueZero series.

The car interior is quite eye-catching as it really gives the vehicle that “came from the future” feeling inspired by the exterior. As you can see in the adjacent photos, the interior uses an eye candy green color which perfectly matches the colors used on the exterior.
