As the end of the year approaches, the Internet is likely to be flooded with all sorts of charts and tops showing who was best or first at doing what. As of this week, this race of showing the best of the best this year has reached the automotive industry.
And the first such classification shows not which carmaker sold the most cars or which car model was the coolest looking, but who got the most likes on Instagram.

At the beginning of October, global brand consultancy agency Interbrand published the Interbrand Best Global Brands 2018 report, displaying for all to see the top 100 brands the world enjoyed this year.

One month after that moment, Interbrand revealed that one of the companies in the top 100 managed to beat all others in becoming the first company in the world to break the one billion Instagram likes mark.

Mercedes-Benz reached that threshold in November, beating to the prize runner-up BMW (708 million likes) and H&M (434 million likes). The fourth place went to Gucci with 353 million likes, and Disney ranked fifth with 331 million likes.

As one should have guessed, Mercedes will be thanking its 34 million followers that contributed to the achievement on the Internet. A specially created website has been set up, one that includes a selection of the company’s most appreciated Instagram photos.

Additionally, these photos will also be displayed at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart starting January 5, in the form of 20 large prints framed by vehicles including the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet and the AMG GT Roadster Edition 50, two of the most popular Instagram models.

"Our systematic multi-channel strategy is again bringing us success,"
said in a statement Natanael Sijanta, Mercedes-Benz head of marketing.

"We concentrate on themes that are attractive and relevant to our target groups. That way we can send out our messages excitingly packaged."
