Mercedes-Benz and smart Report Strong Sales in August

Daimler AG has revealed that its Mercedes-Benz Cars division recorded strong sales in August 2009, as Mercedes-Benz and smart totaled 18,734 units sold. However, the sales figures are down by 10.5 percent compared to August 2008.

Mercedes-Benz USA sold 17,112 vehicles, making August the strongest month so far this year, though it was down 7.5 percent versus August 2008. The report also showed that August is the fourth successive month of increasing sales. On a year-to-date basis, the company sold 118,428 new vehicles, which can be translated into a 25.3 percent decrease over the same period last year.

The volume leaders for the month were the E-, C-, and M-Klasse with sales of 4,671, 4,253, and 2,577 respectively. The 9th generation E-Klasse continues to record strong sales, topping August 2008 by 74.2 percent.

As for smart USA, the brand reported 1,622 units sold in August 2009, which meant a 14.03 percent increase compared to last month. This also marked its best month since March 2009 and the second successive month of sales increases.

The US price for the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse is of around $49,000, and includes equipment such as Attention Assist, Pre-Safe, Brake Assist, Distronic Plus with Pre-Safe Brake, Parktronic with parking guidance and Adaptive High Beam Assist as standard features.

Later this year, the E63 Sedan, the E350 4Matic sedan and E550 4Matic sedan will also be launched. Moreover, the carmaker has announced that in 2010 it will release the next iterations of the E-Klasse with the E350 BlueTEC and the E350 4Matic Wagon and the E-Klasse cabriolet.
