Mercedes Application Information Center Turns 10

One of the most advanced automotive centers in the world for the commercial vehicle sector, the Mercedes Benz Application Information Center (officially named Branchen-Informations-Center) and its engineers are in celebration these days, as the facility is celebrating ten years since it has opened its doors.

During this time, the center has helped put on the road some 180 types of vehicles. They include just about everything from vans to heavy trucks: short-radius distribution vans, winter maintenance services, waste disposal, transporters for concrete and building materials and so on.

The Application Information Center is also used by the German manufacturer as a show of might, with pretty much the entire lineup of conversions performed by the Center's engineer being on display on a 17,500 square meters surface. Of course, not one, but several versions of the same vehicle, wearing different bodies and presenting different solutions, are being shown.

To impress the customers, the Germans have devised a clever way to sell. Each year, people are brought to the center (around 13,000 visitors each year) to take part in a series of demonstrations. This is how Mercedes Benz shows off the work it is performing.

During the demonstration, Axor, Atego, Actros and Zetros trucks wearing a variety of body works are put through their paces.

"If the chassis, engine, bodywork and all other elements add up to exactly what the customer needs, then he's more than welcome to take the vehicle home with him," explains the Center's main engineer, Horst Schaub.
