Mercedes Tells Us Where Men Are Looking At

There is one sure-fire way to make a new car sell better and that is to associate it with a beautiful woman. Mercedes Benz did just that in its most recent video, where it makes a indirect parallel between the new Mercedes CLS and a long-legged blond that gives you cold provocative stares, dressed in a little black number.

Apparently, the German engineers have studied the behavior of men’s eyes when looking at things they like most in this world: cars and beautiful women. Mercedes has used the aid of an eye tracking device, able to follow the movements of the eye on the various parts of the subject you are watching.

For this new and exiting experiment, Mercedes has used a number of test subjects. In each test they were given 40 seconds of "walk around" around the car and, for each volunteer, different parameters were monitored, including the first element to catch their eye, the one on which the eye lingered longest or in what order do they look at things.

The elements that saw the most interest were the hood, headlights and stoplights, the lines that travel along the whole side of the car, the edge of the roof line (which has the CLS’s trademark four-door coupe shape) and the radiator and Merc’ badge on the front. (a bit of badge snobbery perhaps?)

“Behind every car there are a lot of feelings and emotions ... is this true? The Mercedes-Benz Design Center is well known as an emotions factory. That is where the CLS was created - a vehicle that expresses "pure emotion," according to makers anyway. To test this bold thesis, we conducted an eye-tracking test, seeking to prove if the design of the CLS really stands out,” the video stated about the car and the importance of the test.

We won’t give away what they say about men's interests in a woman, for that you’ll just have to watch the video. Let's just say their opinion is a bit too... technical.
