Us, men, tend to think women are lousy at spending money, and by that we don't mean they don't know hot to do it, but that they make the worst possible choices. $200 for a mascara you only use one month? Well, that could have covered at least two model cars that last forever.
The reality is that we are just as bad, it's just that we have different priorities that don't overlap with theirs. All the hygiene products we need to keep us happy are soap, a deodorant, and some toothpaste, while the saved money could go on beer, betting on sports or upgrading the Internet connection.

As for them, well, they don't need broadband - the Facebook app on the smartphone is enough - they don't like sports, and they would much rather have a glass of wine than a mug of beer. As for hygiene products, they don't see them that way: it's more like a beauty arsenal, so you can imagine it's quite important.

There you go, zero overlaps. Somehow, though, millions of families around the world manage to make it work, and that alone is a miracle. It takes a lot of patience, negotiating skills, and willingness to compromise on both sides, but acting like the intelligent, mature people that we are, we get through, day by day.

You can now thank MERCEDES-AMG PETRONAS for making it harder. The Formula One team has just released a set of four race-used pieces of memorabilia that it's selling for - depending on who you ask - quite reasonable prices. For instance, a lamp made out of a Layshaft and a gear from a Formula One car costs £499 (~$712). A bargain, right? I mean, just imagine giving one of your friends a tour of the house, and telling him how the base and stem of that lamp once changed gears "10 times faster than he can blink." And then watch him blink real fast, trying to get an image of just how quick that is.

Or think about that acrylic table that has a piece of an F1 single seater's rear wing bolted underneath. Only seven of them are made and they are each unique, so that £1,000 (~$1,427) price tag is like getting it for free, right? Well, you can only hope she'll see it that way too. Hint: she won't, but if she really loves you (or you're just really rich, and she's just bought $1,000 worth of shoes), then she'll at least pretend. And that, boys and girls, is what true love is all about.
